LIQUID DEATH

“Daddy, I have been warning my friend, she comes to school with different sugary drinks (juice) everyday.
I know that these sugary drinks are not good for her health ,” she continued.
 
“But Dad, can I ask you a question?
 
I told her to go ahead.
 
She said “my friend has been taking these sugary drinks since primary school and now we are in secondary school, she is still healthy, but you called these drinks LIQUID death”
 
This was the interesting conversation I had with my daughter yesterday and I went to pick her from school.
 
In case you’re have some doubts like my daughter as to dangers of taking these sugary drinks (Soda, Juice, Energy drinks etc), let me break it down for you.
 
Whenever you take any of these sugary water, your guts(intestines) quickly absorbs the fibre free sugars in the drinks(soda,juice,energy drink etc) which are glucose and fructose.
 
The glucose spikes your blood sugar, starting a domino effects of high insulin and a cascade of hormonal responses kicks bad biochemistry into gear.
 
The high insulin increases storage of belly fats, increases inflammation, raises triglycerides, lowers HDL(good fats), raises blood pressure, lowers testosterone (causing low sexual drive in men) and infertility in women.
 
That’s not all.
 
Your appetite is increased because of insulin effects on your brain chemistry. The insulin blocks your appetite -control hormone -leptin.
You become leptin resistant, so the brain never gets the “I’m full ” signal. Instead, it thinks you are starving.
 
Your pleasure -based reward centre is triggered, driving you to consume more sugar.
 
If these biochemical chaos goes on in my system each time I drink these sugary drinks, then why haven’t I dropped dead?
 
I guess this might be going through your mind.
